In photos: Berrow Fayre cancelled as high winds cause damage

-

Sunday’s Berrow May Fayre had to be cancelled after high winds caused havoc, damaging marquees and tents on the village playing field.

This was the scene on Red Road Playing Field early on Sunday (May 2nd) as shocked organisers cancelled the event and launched a big clean-up operation.

“The gales have completely blown apart many of our marquees,” co-organiser Jill Davies told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “It was a very sad scene that greeted us first thing this morning.”

“It is a huge disappointment for everyone after so much work had gone into preparing for the event over several months.”

“The event was due to raise much-needed funds for the £50,000 Berrow Village Hall refurbishment, so it’s a blow on a financial basis too.”

Our photos show the scenes at Berrow early today and, above, two of the disappointed organisers – Jill Davies and Mike Wills – holding damaged parts of the marquees
