New £50,000 play area at Berrow starts to take shape

-

Work to create a new £50,000 play area in Berrow using funding from the National Lottery is set to be completed over the next three weeks.

The project on the village green is being overseen by Berrow Parish Council and is on schedule to be completed in June.

The project to refurbish the old play area and turn it into a modern new facility, called the ‘Berrow Empowering Play Area’, won £50,000 in a televised lottery competition last year.

“The work is on schedule and everyone is really looking forward to seeing the finished facilities opened in a few weeks’ time,” a council spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Berrow Parish Council’s application for the £50k of funding was originally short-listed last autumn, but to get the cash, the Berrow campaign team needed to win a telephone vote, which was overseen by ITV West.

Berrow failed to win the first competition to attract the most votes, but instead secured the cash by becoming the project to collect the most votes as a ‘lucky loser’.
