Berrow’s new play area to be opened by area’s former MP

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s former MP is to open Berrow’s newly refurbished play area later this month.

David Heathcoat-Amory will lead the ceremony on Friday 16th July at 3.30pm on Berrow Village Green in Berrow Road.

Berrow Parish Council was able to complete the refurbishment after winning a £50,000 Lottery grant through The People’s Millions, a TV funding competition run by The Big Lottery Fund and ITV.

It also received a £15,000 grant from Viridor Credits Environmental Company through the Landfill Communities Fund and smaller grants were obtained from Sedgemoor District Council, Somerset County Council, Burnham Without Parish Council and Berrow Parish Council.

Berrow Parish Council Chairman Jenny Bentley told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are thrilled and delighted with our new play facilities. We have already seen them being put to good use.”

“All our hopes have been fulfilled as we see people of all ages coming out to play, and we give our heartfelt thanks for the thousands of votes received for us to win The People’s Millions bid and also to all our other funders.”

She said Mr Heathcoat-Amory was a supporter of the new play area and had said he would like to attend the opening when he visited the village earlier in the year.
