Burnham-On-Sea golfer is new UK women's champion
A Burnham-On-Sea golfer is celebrating success this week after becoming the UK’s senior amateur women’s champion.
Bev New has chipped, putted and driven her way to success by winning the Senior British Women's Open Amateur Golf Championship in West Kilbride.
Bev, who is a member of the nine hole club at Burnham and Berrow Golf Club, has been playing for more than 40 years.
This, though, was her first event playing as a senior after she recently celebrated her 50th birthday.
She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It’s an amazing feeling to have won such a prestigious tournament. I’d hoped to do well, but didn’t think I would win."
"The conditions were incredibly blustery, making playing difficult, which makes the win even more satisfying."
Bev, who is a co-owner of Burnham’s Take Two cafe in Chapel Street, shot a final round score of 73 to win the event at a wind-swept West Kilbride Golf Club in Scotland over the course of three days. Over 90 players from across the world took part.
