Final preparations were being made in Highbridge over the weekend for the town to be assessed by judges from the Britain in Bloom competition today (Monday, July 19th).

The Highbridge in Bloom committee members were out in force all day on Sunday, dead-heading, weeding, litter picking and tidying up the town in readiness for the judging.

The youngsters from Highbridge’s Dreamscheme, led by Jason Adams, have also been out in force in various places across the town to help with the tidying up, as pictured below.

“We are grateful to them and to all those who have helped to tidy up the town,” Pam Lyes from Highbridge in Bloom told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Although the town itself has not suffered too much graffiti, nevertheless there has been some, and we are grateful to Craig Groves from Xtreme Clean for removing this for us free of charge.”

“We would also like to thank Keith Cann and his team from Sedgemoor’s Clean Surroundings Team for all their hard work and assistance, and also to the Town and District Councils. We would also like to thank our sponsors, to whom we are very grateful, and Bespoke Signs for supplying the sponsor boards. Further thanks also go to Russell Chedzoy of Baytree Upholstery, Brandon Tool Hire and Jason Adams for all their help and enthusiasm.”

Highbridge received a silver gilt award in 2009, its first year in the contest, and the town’s bloom organising team have high hopes of doing well again this year.
