hopes of achieving success in the annual Britain In Bloom competition
were given a boost on Thursday (July 15th) when two judges visited
Judges Ian Thompson and John Goulden were met by Burnham's Mayor
and Mayoress Michael and Maria Clarke and Burnham In Bloom organisers
Dave Perrett and Richard Young.
judges were said to be "impressed" after their tour
of the town, which began next to the Pier Street fountain, as
pictured above, and included visits to Marine Cove, Apex Park
and Home Farm Holiday Park.
In Bloom organiser Richard Young told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We're
fairly confident we've done well - it was a good visit. The weather
was bracing but dry and we even had some sunshine that made the
town's floral displays look even more colourful."
added: "The judges were keen to hear about community involvement
and were impressed at meeting members of the Friends of Apex Park
and Friends of Marine Cove. They also enjoyed their visit to St
Joseph's School and were impressed by the new painted mural on
the wall outside Burnham Sailing Club."
also remarked how colourful the display on the Tesco roundabout
in Love Lane was, and were very interested to hear about the Rotary
Club's work in carrying out frequent litter-picks along Queen's
Drive during the year."
added: "The judges also saw Home Farm's excellent floral
displays, Ashbourne Guesthouse's high quality garden, and a very
colourful display at Beaufort House in Rectory Road. We also looked
at residents' gardens in Saxondale Avenue and Links Gardens."
in all, it was a superb visit that couldn't have gone any better.
We have high hopes that we've done well. Thanks go to all our
supporters, plus Sedgemoor District Council and the Town Council
for all their help in keeping the town clean."
Burnham In Bloom team will now have to wait until mid-September
to find out how well the town has done.
