Two rock climbers who were feared to be cut off by the high tide at Brean Down prompted the launch of a Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat and a team of Coastguards on Friday afternoon (March 26th).
A nearby resident was concerned for the welfare of the pair and called Coastguards at just before 4pm – leading to a lifeboat from Burnham being launched to investigate.
Burnham Coastguard Ian Jefferies told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Two people were reported to be in difficulty on the rocks on the south side of the Down.”
“The lifeboat crew quickly located them and a crewmember went onto the rocks to communicate with them. He found the climbers were safe and well – and aware of the tide conditions around them.”
Burnham RNLI helmsman Glenn Cutter, who was on the lifeboat, added: “They were properly equipped climbers who had notified various people of their activity, but not the Coastguard. I urge anyone engaged in similar activities on the coastline to contact the HM Coastguard to prevent misunderstandings like this re-occurring.”
