Photo special: Easter crosses ceremony held on top of Brent Knoll

More than 100 local people clambered up the steep slopes of Brent Knoll on Sunday (March 28th) to take part in the traditional blessing of three Easter crosses.

Churches from across the Burnham-On-Sea area were represented at the 20-minute service, which was led by Reverend Tibor Szende, vicar of Burnham's Catholic Church.

The outdoor service has been held each Easter for more than 15 years and a group of villagers from Brent Knoll spent several hours on Saturday moving the symbolic wooden crosses into position on the summit of the Knoll.

The crosses are now clearly visible to motorists travelling along the A38 and M5 on the eastern side of the Knoll.

Rev Szende, pictured, told "We had a good turnout of people for this unique service and it was good to see worshippers from all denominations across the Burnham area taking part."

During the service, which was organised by 'Churches Together in Burnham and Highbridge', the congregation sang several Easter hymns and took part in prayers. The Easter crosses will be in place for two weeks, until the weekend after Easter.
