Surprise party for retiring Burnham butcher after 50 year career

-

A well-known butcher in Burnham-On-Sea hung up his meat cleaver for the final time on Saturday (May 29th) after a 50 year career.

Keith Britton, 65, has been a familiar face at the butcher’s counter in Burnham’s Tesco supermarket for the past 13 years, and previously worked at Palmers in the High Street.

Keith’s family, friends and Tesco colleagues sprung a surprise presentation on him on Saturday morning to mark his retirement, as pictured here.

Keith’s daughter, Diane, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “He has been in the trade for half a century – he started when he left school at 15 – so his retirement today was a very special occasion.”

Keith told Burnham-On-Sea.com at the party: “It was a wonderful surprise – it’s been a very emotional day.”

“I’ve enjoyed most of the last 50 years and will really miss my customers and serving the general public.”

Keith and his wife, Jan, are planning two big holidays over the next few months as they settle down for a busy retirement.
