Plans for new cable car service set to lift off on Brean Down

-

We had some of you fooled with this April Fool’s Day story! We can confirm that there are no plans for a cable car service on Brean Down at this time…

Plans have been drawn up to introduce a new cable car service on Brean Down to make it easier for walkers to get to the top.

The commercial sevice could come into operation for the start of the 2011 summer season to meet new government guidelines on accessibility in open spaces.

Currently, visitors have to walk up more than 150 steps or along a steep roadway to get to the top.

April Stevens, spokeswoman for 1-4 Cable Cars, the company that will operate the service, says the firm’s proposals are already well advanced.

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We expect the new cable car service to quickly become a big tourist attraction in Brean. The total time for an ascent or descent will be just three minutes. A service of this kind will be a first for Somerset.”
