Burnham Carnival organisers issue plea for more volunteers

The organisers of the annual Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea winter carnival have this week warned that the event's future could be under threat unless more volunteers come forward to help.

Members of the event's committee, pictured, have issued an appeal for more helpers to come forward and help with running the event, particularly during the final build-up to the big parade, which this year will be held on Monday November 8th.

"We need collectors, marshalls, general helpers and extra committee members," President Malcolm Borland told

"We're currently down by about 12 people, which means that a lot of work will have to be done by a small group of people if we are to go ahead. The number of volunteers is a serious situation."

"We need new helpers to come forward now, well in advance of the carnival, so that we can plan the work and begin our preparations."

The carnival committee is also appealing for sponsors and programme advertisers to come forward to help with the finances of the long-running event.

Those that can help should contact Jan Paul on 784607, John Hodgson on 782527 or drop in and see Johnathan Walter at Roly's Fudge in Burnham High Street. Alternatively, visit the annual carnival committee AGM which will be held from 7.30pm on Wednesday 12th May at the Ritz Social Club.
