A total of £9,400 was collected for local charities during Monday night’s Highbridge and Burnham Carnival – down slightly on last year.

Andrew Bryant from Burnham Lions Club, who was among the collectors at the successful event, told Burnham-On-Sea.com the figure was down £500 on last year.

“Considering the poor weather, the slightly lower turnout and the poor economic climate, this is a reasonable result,” he said.

The cash will be used to help pay insurance costs for next year’s carnival, and the rest will be split between local charities.
