Organisers of Burnham-On-Sea’s annual carnival have expressed their disappointment that the event will not move to Friday nights from 2012.

Representatives from carnival groups across Somerset met this week and voted in favour of Weston-super-Mare getting the sought-after Friday night slot when Bridgwater Carnival moves to Saturday nights in two year’s time.

It means that the Highbridge and Burnham Carnival will continue to be held as usual on Monday nights.

But Phil New, Chairman of the Highbridge and Burnham Carnival Committee, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that he has still not given up all hope of securing the Friday slot.

“We’re obviously disappointed that Weston Carnival has been given Fridays and are also unhappy that it appeared to have been a ‘done deal’ before we even got to the meeting.”

“We have not given up all hope yet, though. There are still a couple of years to continue the discussions and it all could well change yet. We believe our carnival would be better on Fridays than Weston’s.”

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported earlier this month that the Burnham carnival organisers believe they will be able to attract larger crowds to the town if the event is switched.

This year’s event is unaffected by the discussions and will be held on Monday November 8th.
