Burnham-On-Sea Carnival 2010: Excitement builds for big day

-

Excitement is building ahead of Monday’s 63rd annual Burnham-On-Sea Carnival, which will feature more than 90 colourful entries.

The carnival carts started arriving in Burnham-On-Sea late on Saturday after completing the North Petherton Carnival.

A long line of vehicles is now in place along the B3140, between Edithmead and Love Lane, and will be on show to the public throughout Sunday and Monday.

Burnham’s carnival procession will then begin at 7.30pm on Monday evening near the town’s Tesco supermarket and then wend its way along Love Lane, onto Manor Road, and then along the High Street before finishing in Marine Drive.

This year’s Carnival Queen Anna Kevan and her princesses, Burnham girls Katrina Doyle and Agatha Parrott, (pictured) will lead the parade.

Road closures come into operation earlier in the evening and full details of the route, car parking, and road closures are shown here on Burnham-On-Sea.com’s carnival guide.

Malcolm Borland, President of the Carnival Association told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Everything is going to plan and we’re delighted that there’s a good long list of entries again this year. Everyone’s looking forward to the event – it promises to be another superb one.”

Among the local entries will be Hillview JCC with its theatrical-themed cart, called The Show, pictured top.

Burnham’s emergency services, including St John Ambulance, BARB and the fire service, will be near the front of the procession.
