The organisers of Burnham-On-Sea’s winter carnival have this week moved a step closer to changing the night on which the annual event is held.

At the AGM of the Highbridge and Burnham Carnival Committee, members voted in favour of switching the event from Mondays to Fridays from 2012.

Carnival Chairman Phil New told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re now writing to the county group that oversees carnivals across Somerset to request the move, which we think will help bring more people into Burnham.”

It follows Bridgwater signalling its intention to move its carnival from Fridays to Saturdays from 2012.

Phil added: “We understand that Weston wants to move its carnival to a Friday night as well, so nothing is certain yet. We will have to wait and see.”

He confirmed that this year’s event will not change and the 2010 carnival is on track to be held on Monday November 8th.
