In photos: Burnham and Highbridge joins Children In Need 2010 fun

Fundraisers across the Burnham-On-Sea area collected thousands of pounds for BBC Children In Need throughout Friday (November 19th).

Pupils at King Alfred School held a sponsored silence while staff at Boots The Chemists (pictured right) and Greggs The Bakery on Burnham High Street collected hundreds of pounds in fancy dress outfits.

Collection buckets were also rattling at ASDA in Highbridge, pictured top, where Pudsey Bear made a special appearance.

Highbridge’s Curtain Call School of Performing Arts performed at a BBC Children In Need concert in Bridgwater town centre. And Pudsey Bear also visited the area to do ‘wake and shake sessions’ with local schoolchildren.

Burnham’s Cottage Cafe and Restaurant in College Street raised an impressive £273 for Children In Need from tips and donations during the weekend – owners Gemma and Ricky thanked customers for digging deep for such a worthy cause

In an evening fundraising quiz, Highbridge Children’s Centre staff members donned fancy dress and, together with other local education colleagues, raised over £800

 

Staff and residents of The Burnham Nursing and Residential Centre had a fun day for Children In Need and managed to raise over £200 in the process! Many of the staff wore pyjamas for the day, the residents decorated Pudsey biscuits and some of the staff provided relaxing pamper sessions and massages. The day was nicely rounded off with a Children In Need Afternoon Tea which all enjoyed

Tennis player Alan Galloway met Avenue Tennis Club Ladies Captain Lynn O Dell in Woolavington on Friday where she and her co-workers raised over £1,000 for Children in Need. Alan laid down a challenge to Lynn to come to the Avenue’s Friday night social play in her costume and he would double his donation! Lynn took up the challenge and played at the club for almost three hours in her costume and ended up raising more sponsorship money from nearly all the players

1st Huntspill and Highbridge Cubs raised over £100 for Children In Need by filling smartie tubes with 20p pieces that they collected, by doing good deeds

Staff and Children at Playaway Day Nursery also joined in the fun raising money for Children In Need. They held fancy dress days and sold cakes to parents and visitors.
