Coastguards called to 'kite surfer in difficulty'
A
walker's concerns for a kite surfer in the sea at Brean led to
a call-out for Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards on Saturday afternoon
(February 13th).
A
walker on Brean Down spotted the surfer apparently struggling
in the water at the mouth of the River Axe and called 999 on a
mobile phone to alert Coastguards.
Teams
from Burnham and Weston-super-Mare were sent to investigate, along
with two Weston lifeboats.
But
Burnham Coastguard spokesman Dave Welland told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"It turned out to be a false alarm with good intent. The
kite surfer was quickly found and he confirmed that he was not
in difficulty. The first informant did the right thing in contacting
Coastguards, however."
It
was the first call-out of the year for Burnham's Coastguard team.
