Town council faces "eye-watering" £50,000 bill to repair roof

-

Repairs to the roof of Burnham and Highbridge Town Council’s property will cost over £50,000 it emerged this week.

Cllr Dennis Davey told a town council meeting on Monday that that the roof of the main Council Chambers in Jaycroft Road needs to be replaced and modernised.

However, councillors expressed their shock when Cllr Davey said the initial estimate for the works is in the region of £53,500.

Cllr Janet Keen described the cost as “eye watering” while Cllr Smout said the Town Council “needs a long term plan for the building before spending the money.”

The roof of the council chambers (pictured) currently suffers from leaks during wet weather.
