Up-and-coming young singer Ellie Rialas from Mark, near Burnham-On-Sea, is among 13 young bands and musicians who have reached the semi-finals of a regional music competition.

Ellie, pictured, has been competing in ‘Live and Unsigned’, a competition run by Avon and Somerset Police in which a chance to perform during next year’s Glastonbury Festival is the top prize.

The talented youngster will be travelling to Bristol on January 23rd to take part in the semi-final workshops, where she will be assessed by a panel of judges who include Kieron Pepper, Head of Song Writing at The Bristol Institute of Music and a former drummer with The Prodigy.

The judges will work with the young musicians throughout the day before whittling the 13 hopefuls down to 8 finalists who will then take part in a live final on April 10th to be held at Bristol’s Colston Hall.

One of the judges, Chief Inspector Mark Jackson, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This competition is an excellent way of building bridges between the Police and young people. It’s been brilliant to work with them. I think it is really important to find ways for all young people to express themselves through positive activity, hopefully diverting the most vulnerable away from crime and anti-social behaviour. Any young musicians who have the courage to get up on stage and enter this event immediately have my respect. They are the kind of role models we need.”

Free tickets for the final are available now from The Colston Hall box office on a first come first served basis for what promises to be a nail-biting conclusion to the contest. Tickets are available at http://www.colstonhall.org/boxoffice.
