A fun fair is set to be held at Highbridge’s controversial former market site this week.

Posters promoting the four-day event appeared around the fire-ravaged Highbridge Hotel at the weekend and the fair’s vehicles began arriving on Sunday.

Highbridge county councillor John Woodman is one of several residents in the town who have this week given the fair a cautious welcome.

He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We hope the fun fair is really enjoyable for the people of Highbridge and that businesses in the town also benefit from having it here. I wouldn’t like to see a permanent venture like this being held on the former market site, but it’s fine for a few days.”

The fair opens on Wednesday (October 20th) and runs each day until Saturday (October 23rd).

It is the first time the site has been used for any purpose since the market closed down last year. The Highbridge Hotel is currently derelict following a huge fire in April 2008.

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last month how the site had been advertised as being available for development.
