This was the dramatic scene in Highbridge town centre on Tuesday night (April 20th) when fire crews were called to tackle a ‘deliberate’ blaze that left a vehicle damaged.

A local resident raised the alarm at 8.05pm after spotting a fence alight.

A Burnham fire crew rushed to Market Street to tackle the blaze in a private car park.

Fire crews used a single hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze, which left a Skoda with heat damage.

A local resident told Burnham-On-Sea.com that a group of youngsters had been seen running away from the scene moments before the incident.

It is the second ‘deliberate’ fire in Highbridge in a week – another blaze was reported at the nearby Highbridge Hotel last Thursday, as first reported here.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
