Late start to spring hits entries at Burnham-On-Sea Flower Show

-

Poor weather led to a drop in the number of entries at Burnham-On-Sea’s annual flower show on Saturday (March 13th).

The event, held at St Andrew’s School, attracted 200 entries but the late start to spring meant the overall numbers were down.

Judge John Everitt, pictured above, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It has been a very difficult year of weather for flower growers so far and this was reflected in the overall number of entries at the show. There were far fewer daffodils this year. I was impressed, though, with the general quality.”

Organiser David Bryant, of the Burnham-On-Sea & District Horticultural Society added: “Entries in the cut flower entries were well down on last year, and many of those that were entered were put under heat lamps to get them ready. Considering the late start to spring, we had a good turnout and are grateful to everyone who supported it.”

Burnham’s Mayor and Mayoress, Derick and Christine Cooper, were the special guests at Saturday’s event and presented the winners with their trophies (pictured below). Joy Hutchings is pictured above with her winning floral art entry.
