Historical Burnham-On-Sea deeds go under the hammer

-

A set of historic deeds signed and sealed by a well-known Burnham-On-Sea figure of the 1800s has gone on sale.

George Reed’s original indenture, dating back to March 1859, covers the sale of land in Burnham.

The property is shown on a map within the document and is shown as being sold by Mr Reed in 1858 for the princely sum of £1,050.

The indenture, measuring 31 inches by 24 inches, is being sold on eBay by Burnham photographer Nick Tolley, pictured right.

Nick told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This item may not be of huge financial value, but it is of historical interest considering the local stature of George Reed, who was a key historical figure in Burnham during the 1800s.”

George Reed built the Queens Hotel and also the National School on The Esplanade.

He also built two terraces on the seafront in memory of his daughter and granddaughter, and lived at the Manor House in the Manor Gardens. The item can be seen on eBay here.
