Burnham youngsters set new sleepover world record

Cubs and beavers from Burnham-On-Sea were among 20,000 youngsters across the UK who set a new Guinness World Record for the largest ever sleepover on Saturday (June 19th).

The Burnham youngsters, pictured here, slept under canvas outside their BASC Ground headquarters as they joined more than 500 groups in breaking the record for the biggest sleepover.

"Here in Burnham, we had 17 Kingfisher Cubs and 30 Beavers sleeping both outside in tents and inside the Scout headquarters," Beavers Leader Mandy Williams told "It was a fun event that was enjoyed by all."

Over 500 groups across the UK snoozed their way through Saturday night, while raising money for children's charities and giving thousands of parents the night off!

The 'Giant Sleepover' was supported by the National Confederation of Parent and Teacher Associations plus Girl Guiding UK, The Boys and Girls Brigades, Sea Cadets, The Tennis Foundation and The England and Wales Cricket Board.

Sandie Dinning, founder of The Giant Sleepover, added: "The kids have had a great time this weekend and I think the parents have quite enjoyed a night off too! What is great about The Giant Sleepover is that the kids have so much fun while also learning crucial social and behavioural skills and how they can play a part in helping others."
