Special feature: Highbridge thanks Gill as she moves on

Burnham and Highbridge's MP, Tessa Munt, is among the local people who have this week thanked PCSO Gill Bawler for her work in the town as she moves to another job.

Gill has been a familiar face about Highbridge in her role as a PCSO for five years and Earlier this year was named 'PCSO Of The Year' for Somerset West in the annual Community Policing Awards.

She was also instrumental in setting up the successful Highbridge Dreamscheme and has spent many years working with Highbridge Youth Club.

Gill said: "I will be working on the Somerset Total Place Programme for Somerset County Council as a Project Officer with High Contact Families. The Total Place initiative sets a new direction for Public Services and Local Authorities through better collaborative working."

"I will be based at County Hall in Taunton, but my work will initially be focused in Sedgemoor. The secondment is initially for a year, but there is a possibility it may extend to five."

"I feel excited about the new role, I thrive on setting up projects and the experience I have gained in working with young people in Highbridge will prove invaluable. I will miss my role within the police family as I love it immensely."

"I have been stationed at Burnham for over seven years and throughout that time have met many lovely people. More recently, whilst working in Highbridge, I have been overwhelmed with the support of the community. Without their help, many of the successful projects run by the Beat Team would have struggled. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my time at Burnham and will miss you all greatly."

MP Tessa Munt told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Gill has been a real asset for Highbridge and has worked hard for the town. She will be missed greatly by many residents in the town and the members of the Youth Club."

Highbridge district councillor Joe Leach added: "Gill has been an asset to Highbridge for so many years, not just as a PCSO. Her hard work and commitment will be missed, but I am very relieved to know that she is in her new position, where her shining skills will be appreciated by the entire county, not just Highbridge. I wish her the best of luck in her new role."

Fellow PCSO Claire Chambers added: "The positive attitude and passion that Gill has shown within her role as a PCSO has been truly inspirational and I have learnt so much working alongside her over the past four years. She has been a fantastic role model and a wonderful friend and I wish her all the luck in the world with her new role - I know she'll become as much of an asset within her new team as she has been at Burnham."

Julian Plested of Highbridge Children's Centre told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Gill has always been a great support to us at the Children's Centre and gets on so well with the children and staff. We will greatly miss her. Thanks Gill, and good luck for the future."

Allan Roberts, a Highbridge Pod volunteer, said: "Working with Gill has been a pleasure. With her enthusiasm and get up and go attitude, she has been a rock in the Highbridge area. She always has time for everyone and certainly does far more in the area than her duties dictate. She will be sadly missed but we wish her all the best."

Jason Adams of the Highbridge Local Action Team told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We thank Gill for all her help from the The Local Action Team for Highbridge committee. We all wish her well in her new post and hope she misses us as much as we will miss her - from all her friends on the committee."

Jane and Antony Brooks of Skidmarx Cycles said: "We have known Gill for the past several years through her work in the community; we have seen many positive changes within Highbridge and we think that is largely due to Gill's dedicated hard work and passion for the people of Highbridge. Gill will be sadly missed by us and many, many others, however we wish her every success in her new post."
