Green Flag Award won by Highbridge’s Apex Wildlife Park

-

There were celebrations at Highbridge’s Apex Wildlife Park on Wednesday (July 28th) when a flag-raising ceremony was held to mark it receiving a sought-after Green Flag Award.

Judges have assessed the park and praised its excellent use of green space, well-maintained facilities and high standard of safety and security.

Cllr Jane Moreton, Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, was joined by Burnham’s Mayor Michael Clarke at the special flag-raising ceremony, alongside members of the Friends of Apex Park Improvements Group and council staff.

Cllr Ann Bown, Sedgemoor’s Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted that Apex has won the Green Flag Award this year.”

“Both officers and the Friends of Apex Park work very hard to keeping this green space well managed and of high quality to enable the community to enjoy.”

Marina Turner, Sedgemoor’s Parks and Open Spaces Project Officer, added that the award is a “wonderful reward” for Sedgemoor’s Park Officers, Dog Wardens and the Clean Surroundings Team who maintain the park with the Friends of Apex Park Improvements Group.

Only green spaces which are freely open to the public are eligible to win an award through the scheme, which is run by environmental charities Keep Britain Tidy, BTCV and GreenSpace.
