Fundraising cyclists in Burnham-On-Sea pedal for Haiti victims

A group of 20 Burnham-On-Sea cyclists got on their bikes to raise cash for Haiti's earthquake victims on Friday evening (January 22nd).

88 year-old pensioner Arthur Gilbert was among the group of West Country Triathletes taking part in the fundraising event at King Alfred Sports Centre in Highbridge.

Organiser Mike Gardner told "We felt had to do something to help the earthquake victims and organised a static cycle ride over 46 miles."

"The cyclists rode around a 'virtual' island, changing gears as they went up and down the hills. It was a good training session for our triathlons later in the year and also raised over £85 for the earthquake fund at the same time."

We reported earlier this week how fundraisers across the Burnham area are rallying round to raise cash for those hit by the devastating Caribbean earthquake.
