Over 300 runners took part in Burnham-On-Sea's annual
Half Marathon on Sunday morning (October 3rd).
A total of 344 runners from across the region took part in the
13-mile event, which was organised by Burnham Harriers running
Heavy winds and occasional rain hit the finishing times of the entrants, with Luke Scott from Taunton (pictured above) winning in a time of 1:12:55, which was four minutes slower than last year's winner.
Luke was three and
a half minutes ahead of second-placed Andrew Hussey from Cheltenham. Third-placed Kevin Crenol, from Burnham-On-Sea Harriers, was the first local runner home in a time of 1:16:07.
starting gun was fired at 11am at Burnham's BASC Ground and the
runners wended their way along Love Lane and Queens Drive,
before turning left along the A38 towards Brent Knoll. They then paced through East Brent, Lympsham, Wick Road and Red Road, before returning
to Burnham along Berrow Road.
Winner Luke Scott told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "I'm really pleased to have won this event on my first attempt. The conditions were challenging - the wind was gusty and the roads were slippery - but I enjoyed it."
There was a total of 275 finishers this year. A separate fun run was also held for local children and was well supported by over 20 youngsters.
Organiser Brian Beale, from Burnham
Harriers, who oversaw Sunday's event,
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It's been another successful event
despite poor weather."
"We're pleased with the number of runners - we had 64 entries on the day, which isn't bad at all considering the conditions. We thank everyone who took part and helped organise it for their support."
