Proposals to introduce a new CCTV camera in the centre of Highbridge have been given a boost this week following the donation of £3,000 to the project.

Highbridge County Councillor John Woodman and Jason Adams, Chairman of Highbridge’s Local Action Team, handed over the money, from Somerset County Council’s Community Fund, to Sgt Ian Kennett, as pictured.

The new CCTV camera will be sited in Bank Street and others are planned in the town in the future. A separate camera to automatically record number plates of passing vehicles, to identify stolen cars, is also being considered.

Cllr Woodman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m very happy to support the introduction of a new camera in Highbridge and hope it helps to keep the town safe. We want to sor word will spread in the criminal community that Highbridge is not a place to come to.”

Earlier this week, the town council voted unanimously to give £2,000 from the council’s financial reserves to the project.
