Carnival countdown underway for Burnham-On-Sea club
The
finishing touches are being made to Burnham-On-Sea's carnival
cart, with just days to go until the big event.
Members of Hillview Carnival Club have been working around the
clock to get their cart, called The Show, ready in time for the
Bridgwater Carnival this Friday (November 5th).
Hillview's cart, which is called The Show, has cost £12,000
to build and has a theatrical theme this year. It has 35 moving
parts and is decorated with over 10,000 lights, half of which
are environmentally-friendly.
Hillview's
Chairman, Mark Bishop, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The poor
weather over the past week has set us back because not all of
the outdoor work could be completed, but Space Storage in Highbridge
has helped us a lot by giving us an indoor area to work."
"Overall, we're really pleased with how the cart is coming
together. It's our most ambitious cart ever and the excitement
is building. We'll be screwing in thousands of bulbs over the
next few days to make sure everything's ready in time."
The
cart will be on show to the public for the first time at Bridgwater
Carnival on Friday November 5th and it will then come home to
Burnham for the town's carnival on Monday, November 8th.
Hillview has high hopes of repeating its success
of last year, when it won the County Cup, after wins at every
event on the Guy Fawkes Carnival Circuit. The cart has been built
in a shed at the Bristol Bridge Inn - and the club is grateful
to the pub's licensees for their continuing support.
