Burnham
firms invited to Hinkley Point opportunities event
Businesses
in the Burnham-On-Sea area can find out next month how they can
take advantage of plans to build a new nuclear power station at
Hinkley Point.
EDF
Energy, which has plans to build two new nuclear reactors at Hinkley
Point, will be staging a special conference on Tuesday 6th July
to highlight how local businesses may benefit.
The aim of the UK Supplier Day will be to ensure that local
companies are aware of the opportunities that EDF's plans may
create - paricularly in civil engineering, electrical and mechanical
sectors as well as on-site services for accommodation and transport.
Presentations
at the event will be made by key EDF Energy staff from engineering,
quality and procurement divisions.
Cllr Anne Fraser, Sedgemoor District Council's portfolio holder
for Strategy and Business, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "This
is a welcome boost for many companies in Sedgemoor as it represents
long-term opportunities for local businesses and employment. It
also creates the chance for this council to realise its ambitions
to encourage enterprise and economic growth."
Claire Pearce, Sedgemoor District Councils lead officer
on economic development, added: "This event will explain
that this is a large scale construction project which many local
businesses could participate in. The event will explain the process,
and tackle any concerns, and highlight where businesses can obtain
support. It will be one of several opportunities for businesses
to liaise with EDF Energy direct."
The conference will be held at Bridgwater's Express Park on July
6th. Companies
wishing to take part in the conference or some of our follow on
events can register their interest in an invitation to the event
at the UK Supplier Day website here
or send an email to edfenergysupplierday@ppsgroup.co.uk
or call 0800 019 2205.
