Icy roads cause accidents in Burnham-On-Sea area

-

Icy road conditions led to two serious accidents in the Burnham-On-Sea area on Saturday morning (January 2nd).

The A38 through Pawlett was closed for several hours after an accident, caused by black ice, blocked the road.

Police, fire and ambulance crews from Burnham were at the scene during Saturday morning and diversions were put in place to direct traffic along alternative routes.

The driver of the Ford car lost control in difficult driving conditions and ended up in a ditch, but there were not thought to be any serious injuries.

A second accident also occurred in Red Road, Berrow – again caused by ice.

The same commercial recovery service was called to pull the vehicle out of the ditch, as pictured here.

The Met Office has warned of further icy conditions over the next week as the cold snap continues. There is also a chance of snow falling.
