Oops… red-faced lorry driver brings the roof down!

-

A red-faced lorry driver caused part of a shop’s roof to crash down onto a pavement in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea on Monday (August 9th) after his vehicle struck the building.

Part of the pavement outside S&A Carpets in Adam Street was sealed off after bricks and coping stones crashed down at 2pm, as pictured here.

Tony Scott of S&A Carpets told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The vehicle was trying to get around the corner of Adam Street to make a delivery for us, but the driver caught the roof.”

“A lot of coping stones and bricks came down, creating quite a mess.”

He added: “It caused quite a noise, alarming people inside the shop, but the driver had the biggest shock of all. Fortunately, no-one was hurt.”

Bollards were placed around the entrance to the shop and customers were directed to another door, enabling business to continue as normal.
