Two people were rushed to hospital with suspected neck injuries following an accident which partially closed the M5 motorway near Burnham-On-Sea on Wednesday (December 1st).

Two lanes of the southbound carriageway were closed near junction 23, as pictured here, after the two-car collision.

Fire, ambulance and police crews from Burnham were called to the scene at 9.30am and the roof of one vehicle had to be removed by firefighters to free one passenger who was ‘medically trapped’.

“A total of two patients were taken by ambulance to Weston General Hospital and Taunton’s Musgrove Hospital with suspected neck injuries,” ambulance spokesman Dave Rogers told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The motorway did not fully re-open until lunchtime, causing long tailbacks of traffic back to Burnham.
