Malaria nurse with links to Burnham involved in sex attack inquiry

-

A nurse who once lived in Burnham-On-Sea and went missing after being infected with malaria during a medical trial is reportedly being investigated over allegations of a sex attack.

Matthew Lloyd, 35, was found in the Netherlands last week after missing an appointment as part of his trial.

But the BBC has claimed that the nurse, who once worked at Brean and was well known in the Burnham area, had been arrested and bailed over an attack on a woman, aged 20, on 22nd August.

Mr Lloyd has not been charged and was allowed to leave the country. The woman was targeted twice by the same attacker as she walked home in Southampton.

Hampshire police confirmed: “A 35-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and bailed until 13th December, pending further inquiries.”

Mr Lloyd was reported missing when he failed to attend an appointment in Oxford on 7 October, where he was due to receive drugs in connection with the trial.
