Two injured in Marine Drive accident in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Two people inside this car were injured after a two-car accident in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday afternoon (April 10th).

Emergency services rushed to the entrance to Burnham Holiday Village in Marine Drive at 4.26pm after the collision between a red Toyota and a silver Ford Escort.

Fire crews had to cut the roof off the Toyota, as pictured above, to free a trapped casualty inside the car.

A man was taken away on a stretcher and a female occupant was seen being taken away on a spinal board.

Three fire engines from Burnham-On-Sea and Weston were sent to the scene, along with ambulances and police from Burnham.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Upon arrival, crews confirmed two vehicles were involved and crews got to work carrying out stablisation and glass management prior to roof removal.”

“One person was trapped within the vehicle and one person self-evacuated and both were placed in the care of ambulance crews. The casualty was removed from the vehicle and placed on a spinal board, then conveyed to hospital.”

Eyewitness Andy Davey, who saw the accident and telephoned for the ambulance, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The red car was hit from behind by the silver car.”

Marine Drive was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, leading to long delays for motorists.

Another eyewitness told Burnham-On-Sea.com at the scene: “We heard a big bang and then looked out to see two cars had collided near the entrance to the Holiday Village. The rescue crews were very quick to arrive on scene.”
