Highbridge Medical centre has this week unveiled proposals for a huge expansion of its facilities.

The centre, based in Pepperall Road, has submitted a planning application to build a new single-storey extension on its south west elevation.

“The proposals cover the creation of an extra four additional consulting rooms, two treatment rooms, new toilet facilities and a storage area,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The proposals will see an extra 241 square metres of floor space being added to the centre, which has been under pressure to cater for more patients due to Highbridge’s growing population.

If approved, the extension may also lead to new jobs being created. The centre currently employs over 30 part-time and nine full-time staff.

Members of the public can submit their feedback on the planning application to the district council before the deadline of December 31st.

Town councillors will consider the proposals this week and the district council will assess the scheme in the New Year.
