Burnham medical charity’s £5,000 donation buys new hospice bed

-

Members of Burnham’s Medical Equipment Fund have this week handed over a bumper £5,000 cheque to St. Margaret’s Somerset Hospice to fund the cost of a new bed.

The fund’s Chairman, Tom Ashton, presented the funding to Pam Knight, director of the hospice’s fundraising, during a special visit to the facilities outside Taunton on Tuesday (March 9th).

Pam told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The money will be used to buy a specialist, adjustable profile bed that will be comfortable for our patients and make it easier for our nurses to care for them. We are very grateful for such a fantastic donation.”

Tom added: “Over 20 patients from the Burnham area are looked after by this hospice every week so when we heard that funding was needed for a specialist bed, we were very happy to help.”

The Burnham Community Medical Equipment Fund is a 24 year-old organisation that has provided more than £200,000 of medical equipment to people throughout the Burnham area since it was set up in 1986. Much of its funds come from legacies, gifts and fundraising events.
