Paddy Ashdown, former leader of the Liberal Democrats, was in the Burnham-On-Sea area on Thursday (April 8th) to give his support to the party’s local parliamentary candidate, Tessa Munt.

Lord Ashdown visited Wedmore to launch his party’s local general election campaign in the Wells Constituency.

Tessa and Lord Ashdown visited the George Hotel and then went on to Roger Wilkins’ Cider Barn, where they were joined by Chris Jagger, brother of the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger.

Lord Ashdown told Burnham-On-Sea.com that he believes Tessa stands a strong chance of winning and added: “The West Country simply cannot afford another Tory government, we are still paying for the last one.”

Tessa said: “I am delighted that Paddy came to Wedmore to give my campaign backing and I am convinced we can win here.”

Tessa Munt is one of several candidates standing in the election. Others are MP David Heathcoat-Amory (Conservative), Labour’s Andy Merryfield, UKIP’s Jake Baynes and BNP candidate Richard Boyce.
