Parents who illegally park their cars on double yellow lines outside a Highbridge school have this week been warned that they are potentially putting children’s safety at risk.

Police have written to the parents of pupils at Churchfield School after concerns were raised by concerned residents and parents about parking problems in Burnham Road and Coronation Road, pictured here.

In a letter to parents, PCSO Claire Finch from the Highbridge Beat Team writes: “The Highbridge Beat Team and Churchfield School have recently received several complaints from parents and residents regarding parking within the Burnham Road and Coronation Road area.”

“These complaints have now resulted in parking around the School being one of the PACT priorities for Highbridge, which was decided by the community at October’s meeting.”

“The safety of the children is a priority and I would ask all drivers to be aware of the potential danger they maybe causing.”

“It is an offence to park on the footpath, on a junction, to cause an obstruction, or park within the confines of the zigzag markings, even for a short while.”

She added: “The Highbridge Beat Team have been working closely with Churchfield School over the past week with advice letters being sent home to all parents regarding the parking.”

“Police will continue to monitor the situation over the next few months and will be issuing fixed penalty tickets to any driver who parks committing an offence.”

A police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are doing everything possible to try and make the school as safe as possible for children and pupils.”
