Thieves smash their way into seafront parking ticket machine

-

Thieves caused hundreds of pounds of damage early this morning (Wednesday, April 28th) when they smashed their way into a parking ticket machine on Burnham seafront.

The machine on The Esplanade, south of the entrance to Burnham Holiday Village, was attacked overnight by vandals, who attacked it to try and steal the money inside. This is one several such attacks in recent months.

Sedgemoor District Council’s Tom Dougall told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “No cash was taken although they have done a lot of damage to the machine, which will be expensive to repair.”

“It’s likely to cost the council several hundred pounds. We have retrieved the parts of the machine that were left discarded this morning and have also spoken with local police about the incident.”

Asked whether the council would replace the machine, he said: “This was not a well used machine so we will consider all options.”
