Burnham-On-Sea kung fu group leader is named volunteer of the year

A dedicated volunteer from Burnham-On-Sea has this week been rewarded for his work in teaching local children by being named 'Sedgemoor Volunteer of The Year'.

Patrick Barber, who runs the local Fei Lung Kwan kung fu group, was shocked to find he had won the top award when he was invited along to the awards ceremony.

"It was a wonderful surprise - I thought I had been invited along to the ceremony to support the event rather than receive an award myself," he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Patrick has been working as a volunteer with youngsters for over a decade and added that he was "deeply honoured" to be presented with the award by Sedgemoor District Council Chairman Jane Moreton.
