What a year! Burnham-On-Sea.com looks back at a dozen of the memorable moments of 2010. It was the year that Burnham and Highbridge got a new MP, saw heavy snowfall on several occasions, and enjoyed great success in the nationwide Britain In Bloom competition…

December – Skiing came to Burnham seafront during the heavy snowfall, where conditions were described as ‘better than the Alps’

May – Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg visited the area and helped Tessa Munt to win her place in the Commons, ousting Conservative David Heathcoat-Amory

December – A new charity was formed to secure the future of Burnham’s Tourist Information Centre, ending a year’s uncertainty for the service

September – Burnham-On-Sea’s fifth annual Folkfest was hailed the ‘best yet’ after big crowds were drawn to the town’s Manor Gardens

May – Hundreds of mourners flocked to St John’s Church in Highbridge for the funeral of well-known local farmer Arthur Duckett

June – Nine people were rescued from the beach mudflats next to Brean Down by Burnham-On-Sea’s hovercrafts and Coastguards

November – A huge crowd of over 20,000 people lined the streets of Burnham-On-Sea when dozens of illuminated carnival floats rolled through the town

November – In a surprise move, Pontin’s went into administration, threatening jobs at its Brean Sands holiday park near Burnham

September – Both Burnham and Highbridge scooped top awards in the Britain In Bloom competition

January – 40 year-old Burnham Swimming Pool got a major re-fit as its tiles were replaced during a three-month modernisation project

April – The owners of this vehicle got a sinking feeling when their car became stranded on Burnham-On-Sea beach, one of several during the year

September – Protests against plans for a huge wind farm near Burnham – and giant electricity pylons – were stepped up

August – A popular new Highbridge community garden was unveiled in the town
