Work underway on 500k extension to Burnham sports academy

-

Work has this week begun on creating a £300,000 expansion at Burnham-On-Sea’s Swim and Sports Academy.

Bulldozers have demolished the walkways and paved area at the front of the property in Berrow Road, as pictured, to make way for the brand new pool and two-storey fitness complex.

Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported last year that the major extension had been given the go-ahead by district council planners.

Owners Mark and Sara Cox-Conklin, pictured, said on Saturday they are delighted that work is underway.

“It is super exciting,” Mark told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Phase one of the project is due to be completed by Christmas. The bulldozers have been breaking up the one metre thick concrete around the old walkway and they are due to finish clearing the site over the next few days. Work will then start on the foundations, sewage and drainage for the new building.”

He added: “The first phase will deliver modern fitness and cardio studios plus new changing rooms and is on schedule to open around December 15th. The second phase will see a new 15 x 30ft therapy pool introduced with water heated to 90 degrees, which is on track to be ready next June.”

He added that each of the phases of the project will cost over £100k.
