Burnham-On-Sea postal staff struggle to clear Christmas backlog

-

Postal services in the Burnham-On-Sea area have been severely disrupted by the wintry weather, with some residents not receiving any mail for the past week.

While the team have been catching up with a huge backlog of post at Burnham Sorting Office, some Christmas deliveries may not be made in time.

Royal Mail spokesman Tom Prendergast told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We apologise to customers who have experienced delays to their deliveries as a result of the severe weather across parts of Burnham-On-Sea.”

“Our postmen and women are pulling out all the stops to get the mail delivered as quickly as possible, although in some instances these efforts are being hampered by the icy conditions.”

“We will continue doing our very best to keep the mail moving and have a range of measures in place to ensure deliveries reach people as quickly as possible.”

Some residents have been collecting mail directly from Burnham’s Royal Mail Sorting Office in Dunstan Road, where there have been queues of people during recent days.

Several residents in the town have contacted Burnham-On-Sea.com to report that they have not received any post since Thursday December 16th, the day before the snow arrived.
