4,000 homes hit by power cut across Burnham-On-Sea area

Thousands of homes across the Burnham-On-Sea area were without power on Thursday evening (April 8th) following a major power cut.

Western Power Distribution told that a total of 4,177 homes in Burnham, Highbridge and the Berrow area suffered an outage at 7.13pm following a high voltage fault.

John Chivers, spokesman for Western Power Distribution, told "A total of 4,177 customers in Burnham did experience an inturruption to power supplies lasting about 25 minutes this evening."

"The problem was caused by a high voltage cable fault and investigations are ongoing."

Burglar alarms were set off across the area and several sets of traffic lights were knocked out of action in Burnham town centre, including these in Pier Street pictured above.
