'Positive talks' ongoing over future of Burnham's Princess theatre

Talks to safeguard the future of Burnham-On-Sea's closure-threatened Princess Theatre are still ongoing with a positive announcement expected over the next few weeks.

Sedgemoor District Council has said it is 'fully committed' to the Princess despite controversially abandoning its procurement process to find a new owner earlier this year.

Talks are currently underway between the Town Council and District Council about the future of the building - with 'confidential' discussions taking place in recent weeks.

Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman Claire Faun confirmed to this week: "Negotiations are positive and ongoing."

And Town Council Clerk Eileen Shaw added: "Talks are ongoing with the district council about several options." reported on the district council's surprise decision to pull the plug on its procurement process in September here. Among the bidders for the building were S&D Cinemas, which runs Burnham's Ritz Cinema, and The Friends of The Princess, which operates the hall in conjunction with Sedgemoor District Council.

Sedgemoor District Council has been responsible for the loss-making Princess Theatre in Princess Street since a local Government re-organisation in 1974.
