Fire crews from across Somerset, including Burnham-On-Sea, were called to this huge heath fire on the Quantocks on Friday afternoon (April 16th).

Fire fighters from Burnham, Nether Stowey, Williton, Bridgwater, Minehead, Street, Glastonbury and Cheddar were sent to Holford Common at just after 2pm.

High winds had caused the blaze to spread to approximately 35 acres of heathland and the fire was not fully brought under control until 6.45pm. A total of eight hose reel jets were used to extinguish it.

“The cause is believed to have been deliberate,” a fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “30 to 35 acres of heathland, grass and gorse have been destroyed.”
