Race night raises cash for Burnham’s TIC and Christmas lights

-

Almost £2,000 was raised towards the cost of Burnham-On-Sea’s Christmas Lights and the new charity that is taking over the town’s Tourist Information Centre during a fundraising night on Friday (November 12th).

Dozens of supporters flocked to the race night at the Oak Tree Arena in Highbridge, which was raising cash for TIC charity BIARS (Burnham Information and Rescue Support) and Burnham’s Chamber of Trade.

Burnham-On-Sea.com recently reported how the newly-formed BIARS is being set up to run the seafront TIC following cash-strapped Sedgemoor District Council’s decision that it could no longer afford to run it.

Tom Ashton, Vice Chairman of the Burnham Chamber of Trade and a member of the working party set up to save the TIC, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Friday’s event was a great success – we had a good-sized crowd, great entertainment and raised just under £2,000 for these two good causes.”

Burnham-On-Sea.com was one of the sponsors of the event, which featured flat board racing, live cabaret, a comedian, a raffle, an auction and a disco.
