Burnham-On-Sea gallery showcases local children’s artwork

-

A new exhibition of local artwork inspired by poems has opened at a Burnham-On-Sea gallery this week.

‘The Literary Link’ is the title of the latest exhibition at Sea Breeze in Victoria Street, which features a mixture of drawings produced by local schoolchildren, as well as adults.

The infant classes from several Burnham schools were asked to illustrate a well known nursery rhyme, while the children in the junior classes wrote their own poems, which they also illustrated.

The work of every child that entered the competition is being exhibited at the gallery.

Timothy Smith and Margaret Micklewright are also exhibiting their pictures alongside inspirational poems.

Pippa Wood is showing an illustrated poem about Glastonbury plus a book of her poems. Carly Quinton has illustrated her husband Tom’s poems, which are shown as framed originals.

And Burnham artist Judith Champion is showing several pictures inspired by poetry.

The exhibition can be seen at Sea Breeze at 37 Victoria Street, opposite the Ritz Cinema, until at least Monday 15th March. The opening hours are 10am until 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, except Wednesday when closing time is 2pm.

The children pictured are year 3 to 6 winner, Chloe Pincombe of St Andrews School, plus runners-up Hannah Puddy of West Huntspill School, Keziah Johnson of Brent Knoll School and Katie Micklewright from St Andrews School. Reception to year 2 winners are Ruby Stickley of East Brent School, Fynn Cooper from Burnham Infants School and Kenzie Welch from Berrow School
